Dota 2 Auto Chess Developers Published Much Changes

The easy-to-learn, hard-to-mater gameplay of Auto Chess has also attracted players for various scenes outside Dota 2, most notably ones from the Hearthstone community due to its strong likeness to deckbuilding games. Dota 2 fans also have several big tournaments to look forward to. The DreamLeague Major is coming Mar. 14-24, preceded by the already ongoing SLi Minor. With a new hero in the roster, a flaming-hot mod bringing in new fans and Major tournaments on the calendar, this might be the month Dota 2 goes back to having regular seven-figure numbers.

The custom game's rise is likely to continue this month. If it does, it could help Dota 2 get back over the one million mark for the first time in more than two years. Rumours have circulated over the past couple of weeks to suggest the game's developers are in conversation with both Valve and Tencent for a premium release, but we're yet to get any confirmation on that front just yet. DotA 2 Auto Chess seems to be a real phenomenon at the beginning of the year 2019: the bar of 6M subscribers (accounts created) exceeded while the mod appeared only at the beginning of January. This is a relatively impressive high-made, especially for a type of game as special as this one. Away from the Battle Royales that are in fashion at the moment, Auto Chess has managed to reach DotA 2 players.

Dota Auto Chess is nothing like that, but it is really clever. While it takes place on a chess-like board, each round of the game centers on a timed draft during which both players buy heroes from the same randomized pool. Ideally, you want to create combos. Buying three of the same hero, for example, will let you deploy a more powerful version of that hero to the field, while you can get stat boosts by synergizing heroes' races and classes. You also want to prevent your opponent from building up to crushing combos of their own. Heroes have abilities that counter each other, too, so you've gotta keep that in mind while also remaining thrifty so that your ever-dwindling stack of gold never goes completely kaput.

Bailey broke down the major game elements in his tweet:

Although the name implies the game is chess related the only similarities you have is that the map is a chessboard and you've pieces (units) that are placed on the board. Pieces have different races, classes, abilities and can synergize or be upgraded with other similar pieces.

Each round begins with the option to purchases pieces, ever player is shown five random pieces from a shared pool. Pieces are purchased using the gold you earned, your income amount is affected by your win/losing streak and interest.

We can also mention Counter Strike, who was basically a Half Life mod, or Team Fortress who was a Quake mod at the very beginning. All these licenses were eventually developed and edited by Valve who used the people responsible for these jewels, and it may well be that history is repeating itself for Auto Chess.
