Adventurers are summoned to Halaster Blackcloaks enormous dungeon beneath Waterdeep where they will explore five diverse, new Adventure Zones via the Yawning Portal social hub. Players will encounter and be guided by the proprietor of the well-known tavern, Durnan voiced by Dungeon Master Ruty Rutenberg, and the Chultan priest of Waukeen, Obaya Uday voiced by D&D community leader and founder of Gilding Light, Satine Phoenix. Adventurers in Neverwinter can also look forward to a level cap increase to 80, an Endgame Dungeon, Class Powers and Feats overhauls, a revamped Boons system, a richer loot drop experience and tons more in Undermountain.

To ensure no two Expeditions are the same, multiple methods of randomization have been overlaid to create a varied system. At the core of the Expedition system are the three modular floors selected at the start of a run. These are pulled from the three different floor archetypes, arena, corridor, and rooms, and strung together to comprise a complete Expedition.


Arena floors have short travel time, are built around a challenging boss fight, and always punctuate the end of an Expedition. Corridor floors have a linear design with a focus on fighting mobs. Rooms floors are more non-linear and encourage exploration, but also culminate in a challenging mini-arena. The difference between these floor archetypes gives meaningful variety in the level design for each Expedition; a run with three arena floors feels much different and offers different gameplay and pacing than two corridor floors and an arena.


The wizard is a master of many types of magic, as for which ones to use is up to you. Whether fire or lightning, arcane or cold, wizards are formidable adventurers worthy to take on the most challenging content. Twisted magic whisks inhabitants of the Forgotten Realms to the halls of Undermountain below Mount Waterdeep, with promises of their deepest desires. As adventurers delve deeper into the dungeon, they will experience five new and distinct adventure zones, each with its own set of challenges and rewards. The influence of Halaster Blackcloak and his apprentices is felt throughout the Undermountain story and Campaign, culminating in an all-new Endgame Dungeon, Lair of the Mad Mage.


New Expedition Feature This all-new feature introduced in Undermountain highlights the unknowable nature of the levels beneath Waterdeep. Expeditions will challenge adventurers with scaling, dynamic, repeatable quests in the search for magic relics, lost routes and some of the expansions greatest rewards.
